What are the pros and cons of owning vs renting ski equipment?
You are headed on a trip. You are getting ready to battle the airport and travel. Why am I bringing my own ski equipment?
Potential Con: Extra gear to travel with.
Wait, travel is going to be hard no matter what I bring.
If I rent, I now have to find the time to go rent equipment. I have to wait in line on my vacation before I can ski. I also have to find time at the end of the trip to return the equipment.
Con: I am now wasting valuable vacation time...darn...
If I have my own equipment I can go straight to the hill. I also have time to do other fun things on this vacation.
If I rent don't I get the latest and greatest equipment?
Since I've never been skied on this rental ski before I will have to get used to it. What if the boots don't fit and I don't like the skis? A rental line again.....oh no!
With my own equipment I can always get my boots adjusted to get the perfect fit. I also know exactly how my own equipment will preform every year. I know this makes me a better and more confident skier.
If I rent don't I save money?
After doing a little research, it will cost me on average as much as $405 plus service fees for 5 days of skiing if I rent. I would get that back if I owned my skis and boots for just 2 seasons plus all reaping all the benefits of having my own skis which is priceless.
To sum it all up
Owning your own equipment saves time, is a better ROI and gives you the confidence of being comfortable and having control over your skis. Use that extra time on your vacation that you save from avoiding rental lines to get fresh tracks on the slopes, spend time with the family, relax in the hot tub and enjoy cocktails at the end of the day.
